The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a public health advisory concerning the risk of hemorrhagic stroke to young women associated with phenylpropanolamine (PPA).

Acutrim, Alka Seltzer +, Comtrex, Coricidin, Dexatrim, Dimetapp, Tavist, Triaminic, Robitussin CF and many other consumer products contained PPA. Look at this list carefully and remove any older products in your medicine cabinet that contain phenylpropanolamine.

The Food and Drug Administration warned Americans today not to use dozens of over-the-counter cold remedies or appetite suppressants until their makers replace an ingredient that may cause hemorrhagic strokes, especially in young women.
